Hangout Music Festival Update: What Happened and What to Expect Next
For more than a decade, the Hangout Music Festival has been one of the most anticipated annual events on Alabama’s Gulf Coast. Since its debut in 2010, the festival has brought thousands of music fans to the white sand beaches of Gulf Shores each spring to enjoy world-class artists, beachside performances, and the unforgettable atmosphere that only a music festival on the Gulf of Mexico can provide.
Like many large events around the world, the Hangout Music Festival faced its first major interruption in 2020 when it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thankfully, the festival returned the following year and continued its tradition of bringing top musical talent and visitors from across the country back to Gulf Shores.
In 2025, the event took on a slightly different form. Country music superstar Morgan Wallen partnered with organizers to create a new festival called Sand In My Boots, which replaced the traditional Hangout Music Festival for that year. The Sand In My Boots Festival maintained the same beachside location and high-energy music experience fans had come to expect, but with a lineup and vibe inspired by Wallen’s brand and fan base.
Originally, Sand In My Boots was planned as a one-year replacement for 2025, with the Hangout Music Festival expected to return to Gulf Shores in 2026.
However, due to timing issues surrounding event licensing and approvals with the City of Gulf Shores, the festival’s event license was not renewed in time for the 2026 season. As a result, the Hangout Music Festival will not take place in 2026.
The good news for fans is that this pause is only temporary. Plans are currently expected for the Hangout Music Festival to return to Gulf Shores in 2027, bringing back the beachside music experience that has become a tradition along Alabama’s Gulf Coast.
While the festival takes a short break, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach continue to host an incredible lineup of concerts, festivals, sporting events, and family-friendly activities throughout the year.
