Alabama Has Some of the Best Shelling Beaches in the USA

Alabama’s Gulf Coast offers some of the best beaches in the USA for shelling. With 32 miles of sugar-white sand along the Gulf, these beaches are home to an incredible variety of shells thanks to the Gulf’s rich marine life. From colorful coquina clams and delicate angel wings to sand dollars and vibrant Florida fighting conchs, every visit brings a new treasure.

1. Gulf State Park Beach Pavillion

The Pavilion at Gulf State Park spans 2.5 miles of white sand, sea oats, and sand dunes perfect for beachcombing, sunbathing, and relaxation. With easy access, air-conditioned bathrooms, private showers, a snack bar, ample parking, and plenty of space, its beach is an ideal spot for a day of shelling.

2. Alabama Point

Alabama Point offers about 6,000 feet of shoreline and sand dunes right by the Perdido Pass Bridge. It’s quiet, scenic, and ripe with shells. There are also great amenities such as picnic areas, boardwalks, restrooms, and outdoor showers.

3. Shell Beach

Just east of Perdido Pass Bridge, you’ll find Shell Beach, the easternmost part of Gulf State Park’s beaches. For a small fee, you can enjoy easy access to soft white sand, picturesque dunes, and some of the best beach shelling along the water’s edge.

4. Dauphin Island

Take a day trip to this barrier island for a quieter experience and bonus shoreline bounty. While you’re there, some other attractions to see include Fort Gaines, Audubon Bird Sanctuary, and Dauphin Island Sea Lab.
